    Digital news subscription tax credit

    By Sabo Jang | General, Tax Info | Comments are Closed | 3 February, 2022 | 0

You can claim up to $500 per year for amounts you paid for qualifying digital news subscriptions for the tax years 2020 through 2024.

The CRA launched the digital news subscription tax credit in 2021 as a tax measure to support journalism.  Since then, the CRA’s list of qualifying digital news subscriptions has vastly expanded.  The list of eligible digital subscription providers includes Globe & Mail, Times Colonist, National Post, The Province, The Vancouver Sun and The Guardian.

The digital news subscription tax credit is a non-refundable tax credit applied at the 15% federal personal tax rate on up to $500 of qualifying subscription expenses in the year.  This could mean a $75 tax refund to offset your subscription costs.

Submit receipts for your qualifying expenses with your 2021 personal tax documents.  Upload your receipts here.
